Hi Jenelle, I was hoping you could answer a question, if I feel the urge to go out for a drink by myself in the evening, where would you recommend as a nice accepting place. Thanks girl! Julia
Jenelle's Beat:
Save This for Reference! These are places I see with my own eyes and ears and report on. I am Cincinnati's original "Party Girl"! Many of the spots listed here have Drag shows. By day of the week:
Monday:
Vertigo CLOSED My first choice to go on a Monday evening if you like a bit of the Macabre. Enjoy “Goth” dressed in black and dance yourself silly!
Hooters Not recommended actually if by yourself, you will get lots of stares and feel awkward Go and watch MNF down on the river at Hooters, if you like football but be prepared for stares from men. There aren’t many women except those that work there so bring your own crowd and be very careful.
Tuesday:
Jacobs: Funk and Soul music, their busiest night of the week!
Vertigo- CLOSED Tuesday welcomes the Gay, Lesbian and TG crowd to this Coryville bar at the site of the old Alexander's/Cooter’s location opposite Blockbuster. Very low drink prices for a dance club (plays 80’s/90’s). Cover $3. Parking a bit of a hassle. Not recommended to go to any other night (dressed En Femme except Monday (Safety Concerns)!
Wednesday:
Hamburger Mary's –909 Vine across from main Library. Cover: None. Starts at 11:30.
The Dock: Men's sand beach volleyball, outside. Starts at 6:00, Cover $4.

Thursday:
Pipeline, Not a cool place to go to anymore! The drag show, featuring Ms Dimon, below, even left for another location! It is now at Yadda’s in Covington on Pike St., still on Thursdays and that is normally a lesbian bar but very accepting of TG lifestyle. Washington Ave. A 4-level bar, features, the BEST drag show in the city! Led by Jessica Dimon, the show features 7 or 8 girls to a great time on a small stage. Has a small seating area as, so arrive early. Cover $3. moderate drink prices
Friday:
The Dock-Lesbian sand beach volleyball, dancing, a drag show that can start anywhere from 10PM to 11 PM and more dancing! It can get wild too! Cover $4.
Saturday: Rosie's- Covington, KY- corner of 7th and Bakewell. A great place to go to any day of the week, has a nice neighborhood bar feeling, atmosphere and great people who you will get know in short order. It's a lesbian bar that attracts everyone on the weekends and everybody gets along just fine. There is a large plasma screen on the wall that plays sports while corner TV's play the Adult Swim Channel. Saturday night is the night Donna, the owner has music in and it is usually quite good, Annette Shepherd, plays the first Saturday and usually "Sometimes Paul" on the third Saturday. See http://sometimespaul.tripod.com for more details on both. Pool and darts are also both very popular here. Jacobs on the Avenue-Hamilton Ave in Northside. Drag show starts at 11:30. One of bartenders is a former CrossPort member. Cover
Subway-11:30, downtown across from the Aronoff Center. Cover
Sunday:
Jacobs: Karaoke music Several articles with pictures and interviews are “In the can” as they say in the biz, so watch these pages for your favorite place to be reviewed. Ever wondered what the manager/bartender/doorman says about the people who go to their places or what they hear? I will also interview the customers and in some cases the drag queens. |
